About the Clean Clothes Campaign and the Fashioning a Just Transition Manifesto

About the Manifesto

Decades of exploitation plus climate, ecological and technological change demand a radical overhaul in fashion - one that puts workers' rights and the planet above corporate greed. We need a transition to a low carbon fashion industry that values people and restores nature, not one that exploits both for profit. This is a Just Transition to a renewed future of fashion.

The Fashioning a Just Transition Manifesto will set out more or less 10 core principles for climate and environmental action for fashion that embeds the protection of workers' rights and livelihoods. These principles will be accompanied by background chapters.

These principles will map out our collective vision for a different type of fashion system. The primary audiences and contributors for the Manifesto are CCC Network organisations and its allies, garment workers, young people. The aims are:

  • to influence the future of fashion,

  • to inspire youth, workers, CCC network and allies to act,

  • to guide lobbying, advocacy and public engagement,

  • to support worker organising

  • build a Just Transition movement.

When it is finished, the Manifesto will act as a guiding star for a Just Transition to a renewed future of fashion - in other words, the Manifesto is not a set of policy demands or a strategy document.

The content of the Manifesto will be crowdsourced online and offline, in public, by garment workers and their organisations, young people, the Clean Clothes Campaign Network and it's allies - as well as anyone else who wants to share their thoughts. This crowdsourcing phase ran until November 16th, 2025.

An editing committee made up of young people and workers' rights activists created a first draft of the Manifesto based on the comments made on this site during the crowdsourcing phase. A second and final draft was published on 1st March, for final comments by the 24th March.

The final Manifesto will be published on 1st May 2026.

When it is finished, the Manifesto will act as a guiding star for a Just Transition to a renewed future of fashion.
