Gender and diversity perspectives are often missing from (inter)national climate plans and remain largely gender blind. Yet there are several reasons to encourage gender transformative climate plans. In addition to their major productive and reproductive responsibilities within communities, women should play a central role in natural resource management. This puts them in a key position to contribute to strategies to provide food and livelihood adapted to the changing climate. Women have been at the forefront of social movements for climate justice. Their experience, knowledge and skills make addressing the climate crisis more effective and sustainable. And their knowledge and capabilities can be used for mitigation, adaptation and disaster relief, as well as biodiversity restauration, eco-systems management, etc..
