We would like to point out that any proposal to reduce production volumes should raise some uncomfortable questions, in order to avoid reproducing the imbalance of power and consumption in other forms:
- Who decides how much and what to reduce?
- Who will financially support the regions and communities that currently depend on the textile industry for their survival?
- How can we ensure that the transition does not become a new niche market for privileged consumers?

As Fondazione Finanza Etica, we do not have definitive answers, but we are convinced that systemic change requires finance to stop considering itself neutral and to take on an active and responsible role.
In particular, we believe that finance can and must contribute to a just transition in three ways:
- By directing capital towards companies and supply chains that demonstrate a reduction in overproduction, invest in the quality of work and ensure a more equitable distribution of added value along the chain.
- By rewarding transparency: requesting complete and comparable information on social and environmental impacts, profit margins at different levels of the supply chain and respect for trade union and contractual rights.
- Supporting the cultural transformation that accompanies economic transformation, to counter the idea that unlimited consumption is the only path to development. Finance can help to disseminate metrics, tools and incentives that challenge the centrality of quantitative growth and enhance the quality and durability of the goods produced.
