Great work. In the manifesto, I would also insist and underline the role that governments have in ending the harm caused by fashion brands and manufacturers. Passing mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence laws is not enough—these laws must be backed by strong institutions.
3 proposals:
States should establish independent supervisory authorities to monitor corporate due diligence plans, enforce compliance, and provide practical guidance to companies. These bodies can share best practices and offer sector-specific advice, helping companies move beyond a tick-box approach. These supervisory authorities were planned in the CSDDD.
Governments must also clarify the link between administrative oversight and judicial enforcement so that victims can access justice when harm occurs (and when said supervisory authorities do not protect sufficiently victims).
Finally, public authorities should lead by example, embedding due diligence in public procurement and trade policies to set a clear standard for business. They also have a role of supporting and advising companies in framing their due diligence plans and actions, presenting best practices, positive incentives for companies, and proposing ways forward.
