There is a lack of financial instruments that effectively reward companies that:
- guarantee transparency on women's wages and working hours by publishing verifiable data;
- ensure access to social protection (health coverage, accident insurance, statutory leave) and freedom of association as minimum conditions for receiving funding or credit.

For ethical finance, integrating gender also means equipping oneself with concrete operational tools, such as:
- assessment metrics that make gender risks and impacts visible throughout the supply chain,
- clear selection criteria and conditions for access to financing,
- public and verifiable reports documenting results.

It is important to highlight that gender discrimination is intertwined with lack of access to financial education and economic violence. For example, a large client such as Adidas could make contracts with suppliers in Bangladesh conditional not only on compliance with minimum wage and safety standards, but also on concrete measures such as:
- guarantee severance pay in the event of dismissal due to force majeure;
- organise compulsory courses on health, safety and financial independence for female workers.
Some might argue that this demand amounts to a paternalistic or neo-colonial approach. We believe, however, that it is the clear responsibility of those who derive economic value from global supply chains: transferring social standards and protection tools is not “exporting democracy”, it is stopping the exploitation of practices that would be unacceptable in the countries where the brands are based.
