The just transition itself must be ecofeminist in order to be truly comprehensive, transformative and radical. This is also because in the fashion industry (as in agriculture and healthcare), the workforce is mostly female, and women often suffer wage discrimination, precarious employment, harassment at work and denial of reproductive rights, even though they are often the leading figures in the struggle for change: trade unionists, activists and ethical entrepreneurs.
It should be noted that the current economic system is extractivist and male-dominated, exploiting natural resources and bodies in the same way, while ecofeminism proposes alternative models: care, relationships, reciprocity, community and cooperation. So the just transition is ecofeminist because it focuses on people, the Earth and the relationships between them.
Because it rejects hierarchies (of gender, race, class, species).
Because it does not seek to “fix” the system, but to transform it radically.
