About the Clean Clothes Campaign and the Fashioning a Just Transition Manifesto

About the themes

The themes are a set of nine statements. Each statement is accompanied by an explanatory paragraph, the length of which varies per theme.

The themes are not definitive, nor are they meant to be complete. They are conversation-starters and are meant to inspire discussions, generate ideas, actions and – eventually – the chapters that will make up the Fashioning a Just Transition Manifesto.  Think of them as seeds from which different plants may sprout. Once you plant the seed, according to the soil (who is discussing the theme(s), the weather (the climate in which they work or active) or the nutriments they are provided with (the lived experiences of those engaging in discussions) the plant they produce may be different.

You can think of the chapters of the future Manifesto as the fruits those seeds will bring. One single seed can produce many fruits, so we do not expect a direct one-to-one relationship between themes and Manifesto chapters. For instance, one theme may sparkle a discussion that points to the need for a new chapter unrelated for the original theme. This is OK, and it is also the reason while we are expecting the Manifesto to have ten chapters while we only have nine themes.
